Lotus Notes 8 in other language

IBM is releasing Notes 8.0.1 soon, in the Lotus community we are all excited about this new release, however, it looks like it won't be that exciting for some organizations that want to deploy the Notes client in other languages.

According to IBM Technote 1288585 the Notes client will come just in some default languages (Spanish not included by the way) and if you want to have the client in a different language you must deploy a MUI (Multilingual User Interface).

The concept of Language Packs for the Domino server is a perfect way for Server Consolidation, but, for the client is not the same. I agree that IBM must invest time and money by creating different clients for different languages, and the idea of deploying just default languages and MUI's if you want other language that the default will save some money. But not including Spanish as part of the default languages is not that cool, specially if it is used for more than 320 millions native speakers.

Check EdBrill.com for more comments about it.

By the way, I don't use Spanish at all in my work environment, just at home, but I know great/big companies (Mexico, South and Central America) with just Spanish-speaking employees in the IT department, and I'd love to see more companies in our/my country using Notes and Domino. IBM/Lotus, can you have more Lotusphere comes to you in LATAM ?

On the other side, I can consider these MUI's a great idea, but IBM should find an easy way to deploy them. What about Desktop or Installation policies ? What about smart upgrade ?

IBM Lotus Sametime 8 is out

IBM Lotus Sametime 8 is out and ready for download. My only comment to IBM is be carefull when talking to customers about the different flavors.

I should be running 8 really soon. At least my home servers will be all 8 tonight.

Google Maps - Street views

I was reading Ed Brill's blog this morning and I saw how nice Google maps has become. I use it all the time, but never pay attention to some of the features.

I have my TomTom One but this Google feature can give us some extra information about the place we want to go to.

Most of the places in Chicago are available, go and look for tour place wherever you are.

Places I have been in

I was reading John's Blog and I saw this nice site http://www.world66.com/myworld66 that shows the places you have been in.

I have been just in: Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico and US. I would love to go to Europe, I can imagine me and my family walking around in Spain, Italy, France, UK.... I guess I need to save some money and time. Let's see how it goes in the next 5 years.

This is what I have done locally.

Status Report... Busy

Some friends have asked why I am not posting anything lately. Well basically I am really busy.

I am having really nice projects plus I am still adjusting to the new city (I used to be in Austin, TX remember ?). I have some interesting drafts I will publish as soon as I get a chance.

We are also preparing for the holidays, my Mom is here and my mother in law and sister in law will arrive today from Venezuela.. I will have full house during November and December. I also have some cool pictures I will upload to Picasa very soon.

Just to finish this entry.... this is the phrase of the year:

"....Por que no te callas ?.."
