Installing LEI 8.0.2 on i5/OS

While doing some upgrades last weekend for an iSeries customer (i5/OS), we ran into some issues when I tried to upgrade the current LEI 7.0.2 to LEI 8.0.2.

There are 2 IBM Technotes that will describe the same problems we were experiencing:

LEI does not install on V5R4 using 5799PTL V5R4M0

VNC sign-on screen disappears when installing LEI on a i5/OS system

Well, in our case, those didn't help. After spending some time on the phone with LEI support we were able to identify our problem.

There is a file named systemdefault.properties in /QIBM/ProdData/Java400. This file was pointing to the wrong set of java libraries, so, at the time the LEI wizard was going to run in the VNC session on the iSeries, that file was causing java errors and then killing the VNC session.

To fix that problem, you only need to rename that file during the install. After LEI is up and running again you MUST rename the file to its original name.
